Learn Persistence In Gaining The Search Engine Position You Want!
The best and most profitable traffic you will find on the web comes from Search Engines. Gaining that coveted number 1 or 2 position in the search engine results can in many cases take some time to achieve, but it doesn?t always have to. Much of the secret in gaining the number one or two position is often more due to persistence than by any other means.
What would you do for a Number 1 SEO Position?
There are many different steps you can take for gaining that number 1 position and my firm holds 100?s of number one positions but what most people fail to realise is that we don?t necessarily hold that position for generic terms. Quite often with very little work and just a little webpage tinkering we are able to achieve a Number 1 position with no or very little number of back links to the specific page.
You will notice that this is the key to this whole issue. In many cases my own team build our sites to have multiple number 1 positions for a range of webpages not just the main default page. Our strategy is to find focused keywords that are worth money. That?s right, keywords have a value to them. In fact in some of our sites the our landing pages get more hits than our default pages simply because that is how we have developed the sites. The key, PERSISTENCE step 8 in Napoleon Hill?s book Think and Grow Rich, is very often all that is required for that coveted Number 1 position, but the question is, ?The Key is Persistence in What Arena??
There is only so much that you can do by adjusting the Meta data and keywords on your target web page.
But let me add a few key aspects to this ?
When you are developing a page that you want to rank well, the page should have a focus of no more than 5 keywords or phrases. Personally, I recommend 2 or 3 but technically you could have up to 5 keywords. Then when you structure the page ensure that you use the keywords in ?
- The Title Tag - The Keyword Tag - The Description Tag - The Main Body of the Webpage
The title tag can generally have the keywords broken up or in a sentence. Some people incorporate | symbol between the keywords and this seems to help the search engines focus on the keywords more effectively. For example you will often see in the title of well ranked webpages ?

In the example above there are in fact four keyword phrases. The phrases you have in the title field should be the ones you want to rank well in the search engine. These same keyword phases should also be in the keyword tag and the description tag. To truly be effective they should also be the only ones in the tag. If you have 50 to 100 keywords in your keyword tag, you are only going to decrease the value of the webpage. Now many seo experts will say that the search engines pay no notice to the keyword tag and description tag. I totally disagree because through experimentation, via a strict scientific approach, I have seen where we have optimised a page by only changing the keyword tag and description and we have seen considerable improvements in the placement of that webpage including in search engines like Google, MSN and Yahoo.
Here is the key - make the description so that it is actually understandable. The description of the page is very important, as many search engines use the description as the description they show in the search engine results for humans to use. If the description you use doesn?t make sense then you may turn people away from reading your page even if you are ranked number 1. Generally I try to ensure that the description I use in the description tag is also found in the main webpage. To make this description valuable you may have one like ?

Once you have written an effective and descriptive description, the next step is to prove to the search engines that your webpage is in fact worthwhile in being in that number one position. I should note at this point, that the webpage you are trying to rank well could be an article or it could be a sales page. Which ever it is, for it to be ranked well you will want to make sure that what is on that page is worthwhile or you could find the page being banned and more so, complaints from users of the search engine.
For truly competitive keywords like generic terms like dog or cat you will generally find that you are best off staying away from them until you build your backlinks into your website to a substantial amount. Generally you find that as the number of backlinks that come into your site increase, the easier it is to rank well for those more generic terms. But be warned, quite often there is very little money to be earned in those generic keywords.
To rank well for certain keywords you will want to ensure that you receive backlinks to those pages that use the keyword in the HyperText element of the hyperlink. The most effective way to generate these backlinks is through articles but that isn?t the only way. Now sites like social networking, video networks like YouTube and so forth allow you to incorporate hyperlinks using hypertext in their site which you can program to link back to your target pages. The more quality backlinks you have from quality sites. The more likely you are to rank well in the search engines but here is the kicker.
You need to have persistence thus my whole point to this article. To often people will give up after six months of trying to build a website that actually sells something. I have sites that I have built that have been absolute disasters and sold nothing, simply because I have chosen generic keywords with very little focus where as others that have small numbers of hits of just 20 or 30 hits a day have conversion rates of 60%. That?s right, I have webpages that have 20 plus sales a day off 30 hits.
These sites work and sell because I spent the time building effective backlinks and optimising the page but more so, I was persistent in achieving that number one position on the web through developing quality backlinks. Personally, the most effective way of building those backlinks is by using articles and submitting articles to article directories so that they can be distributed online to various blogs and websites that are interested in your material. In many cases you can even contact websites directly to see if they would be interested in putting your article on their site. Many sites are always looking for quality material.
Persistence Pays Off ?
The key to success on the web is ? Persistence. Many people give up and that is why they fail. Not because their site didn?t work but simply they didn?t put the work into getting their pages to rank to quality keywords which would lead to the money they desired.
