Oldaker did research at the New York Public Library, which was Samuel Tilden's gift to the American people. She also did research at the National Arts Club, which was originally Tilden's home and today a historical landmark. She read numerous books and documents as well as newspaper accounts to write a compelling screenplay about the four months of conflict and voters protest demonstrations that uncannily prefigured the Bush/Gore dispute.
